Trinidad
One of Cuba’s second cities, Trinidad, is also a UNESCO world heritage site and is well worth a visit. The cobbled streets and stunning buildings are beautiful and nearby, in Santa Clara, you can visit the Che Guevara Mausoleum. Che’s iconic face is painted on walls and doors all over Cuba and you can also go to the mountain retreat where he met with Fidel Castro just before the revolution. It’s high in the Sierra Maestra mountains at La Comandancia de la Plata. Back in Havana another living history building worth seeing is the brutal Jose Marti Monument in Revolution Square. Zip up in the lifts and you get an amazing view from the top – including of yet another face of Che on the municipal buildings on the edge of the square.
